Obituary for James Gregg Cable II

James Gregg  Cable II
James G. Cable II, age 72 of Toronto, passed away Monday, Sept. 16 at Trinity West Medical Center after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 21, 1941 in Steubenville, OH son of the late James Gregg Cable and Pauline L. (Prysock) Cable.

James retired from Weirton Steel in 1994 after 30 years of service. He was employed in the transportation department as a railroad locomotive engineer.

Jim was a member of the following organizations: Toronto Masonic Lodge 583 F&AM; Toronto American Legion Post 86; Toronto VFW Post 6906; Ohio Valley BSA Owner’s Club of which he was a founding member. He was co-owner and operator of Cable’s Campground in Toronto. He had a passion for his beloved campground and worked long days over the years to develop it. He was especially proud of the thousands of motorcyclists from all over the United States, Canada, and Europe who attended motorcycle events for over 30 years at his campground. He was also an avid collector of antique motorcycles and automobiles and enjoyed refinishing antique furniture. He loved to travel having gone to Mexico and Germany numerous times plus many other foreign countries.

He was a 1959 graduate of the former Jefferson Union (now Edison) High School. He served in the US Army from 1960-1963 serving in Berlin and Mannheim, Germany. He was a member of the Hilltop Presbyterian Church in Toronto.

Survivors include his wife Nikki Ann (Bonnizzio) Cable whom he married July 13, 1983. Also he is survived by stepdaughters Julie M. Robinson (Robert) of Toronto; Jana L. Witt of Lebanon, IN and her companion, Wylie Womack; Janet A. King of Toronto. Step-grandchildren include Jayce Robinson, Cody, Emily, and Camron King, all of Toronto, Haley M. and Alyssa J. Witt of Lebanon, IN. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen M. Springer (John) of Howard, OH and a favorite cousin Bette Ann Parker (Paul) of Toronto. He is also survived by his former wife and good friend Gisela Martin of Toronto and his mother-in-law, Hattie J. Bonnizzio of Toronto. Two nephews also survive, Todd (Mary) Sutton of New Albany, OH and Gregg Springer of Newburgh, IN and great-nephews Chase and Shane Sutton of New Albany and Alexander Springer of Newburgh, IN.

Visitation hours for Jim will be 2-4 and 6-8 Thursday, September 19th at the Clarke Funeral Home – Toronto. Additional visitation hours will be held from 10 to 11 A.M. Friday, September 20th at the Hill Top Presbyterian Church, County Road 46, Toronto.

A celebration service of Jim’s life will be held 11 A.M. Friday at the Hill Top Presbyterian Church with the Reverend C. Robert Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at the Island Creek Cemetery, County Road 46 & State Route 213, Toronto. There will be full military graveside honors by the Toronto American Legion.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Jim may be made to the Hill Top Presbyterian Church, 6954 State Route 213, Toronto, OH 43964
